On appropriate holidays and other special occasions the Flag Committee of the Eagle Point Chamber of Commerce produces a patriot display of more than 175 flags, spaced 20 feet apart, along a route which begins at Highway 62 and leads to the Eagle Point National Cemetery. The vision, called 'Avenue of the Flags' and begun by Sharon Bauer in 1996, is to have approximately three miles of flag lined streets through the center of town. Each flag displayed once draped the casket of an American veteran and was donated by the families of the men and women who made possible the freedoms that we enjoy. Friends, relatives and other patriotic citizens wishing to honor our deceased veterans are awed by the sight of over 175 flags flying along the route to the Memorial Day services at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. The donated flags are flown as a fitting memorial that reminds us that the life we have is made possible not only by our great country, but also by the men and women who have served it in the armed forces.
